Anne Thurmond is Assistant Professor of Clarinet and principal clarinetist of the
Cumberland Quintet and the Bryan Symphony Orchestra. She has been on the
music faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Delta State University and
Georgia College. She holds a bachelor of music/music education degree from
Indiana University at South Bend, as well as a masters degree from the
University of Illinois, where she studied with Howard Klug. She earned a doctor of
musical arts degree in woodwinds from the University of Georgia. Also an active
performer, Dr. Thurmond has presented solo and chamber recitals on all five of
the woodwind instruments throughout the United States and the Caribbean, and
has performed with the Cedar Rapids Symphony, Dubuque Symphony, the
Elkhart Symphony, the Macon Symphony and Sinfonia da camera.
James Lotz is a Professor of bassoon at Tennessee Tech University and
principal bassoonist of the Cumberland Quintet and the Bryan Symphony
Orchestra and is a faculty member of the Sewanee Summer Music Center. His
other orchestral experience includes principal bassoon of the Chattanooga
Symphony and the Jaap Schroeder Chamber Orchestra. He has been a member
of the Bridgeport Symphony, the Norwalk Symphony, the Knoxville Symphony,
the Breckenridge Music Festival and the Mexico City Philharmonic and has
performed with the Nashville Symphony, the Alabama Symphony, the Stamford
Chamber Orchestra, and the Connecticut Grand Opera. Mr. Lotz is an active
studio musician in Nashville and soloist. He can be heard on dozens of
recordings including the 1993 Grammy Award winning CD of PDQ Bach. He has
been guest soloist on two of the last three International Double Reed Society
conventions and has performed for National Public Radio on Music Today and
Schickele Mix. Mr. Lotz holds degrees from the University of Tennessee and
Yale University.
Greg Danner is former hornist with the Baton Rouge and Acadian orchestras in
Louisiana. He has also performed with the Lake Charles and Rapides orchestras
in Louisiana and the Saint Louis Symphony, Saint Louis Municipal Opera, and
Webster Groves orchestras in Missouri, and is a former member of the Louisiana
Brass Quintet and Evangeline Wind Quintet. Mr. Danner studied with Verne
Reynolds, Milan Yancich, and Roland Pandolfi. Mr. Danner currently performs
with the Cumberland Quintet, Tennessee Tech Brass Quintet, and the Bryan
Symphony Orchestra.

The Cumberland Quintet, established in
1972, has built a solid reputation for unique
programming and fine musicianship. The
group has toured extensively throughout the
USA and Europe. Commanding a large
repertoire of music from all periods, they
offer the standard wind quintet classics as
well as exciting modern works and lighter
popular music. They have performed on
television, radio and at music conventions for
the College Music Society, Midwest
International Band and Orchestra Clinic, the
National Flute Association, and Tennessee
Music Educators Association. They have
three recordings, the latest entitled Shadows
and Dreams which includes two works
commissioned by the group. The
Cumberland Quintet is in residence
_______________________ at Tennessee Technological University.
Roger Martin, Professor of Flute, was on the music faculty at Moorehead
(Minnesota) State University prior to joining the Tech faculty. Martin has
appeared as flute soloist and recitalist throughout the U.S.A., Canada, Hong
Kong, and China where, in 1987 he performed at the Shanghai Conservatory of
Music. His orchestral experience includes principal positions with the Fargo
Moorehead Symphony Orchestra and the Festival Chamber Orchestra at the
Breckenridge Music Festival. Martin holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute
Performance from Virginia Commonwealth University, a Master of Music degree
in Woodwind Performance from Florida State University and the Doctor of Music
in Flute Performance at Florida State.
William Woodworth, Associate Professor of Oboe, holds degrees from the
Eastman School and Music and Eastern Washington University. Previous to his
tenure at Tennessee Tech University, Mr. Woodworth taught Instrumental Music
for ten years at Fairport (NY) Central Schools and taught and performed oboe at
State University of New York at Geneseo. He has also performed with the
Rochester (NY) Philharmonic Orchestra, the Spokane Symphony Orchestra, the
Breckenridge (CO) Festival Orchestra, the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, and
was principal oboist with the Rochester Festival Orchestra. Mr. Woodworth
came to Tennessee Tech in 1988. He is currently the oboist and manager of the
Cumberland Quintet which has released three compact discs and several
nationally aired TV shows for PBS since 1988. Mr. Woodworth is the principal
oboist in the Bryan Symphony Orchestra at Tennessee Technological University,
teaches Theory, Aural Techniques, and coaches several woodwind quintets. He
is an active teacher, recitalist, adjudicator, clinician and studio musician in
Nashville.
