Capitol Hill visit supporting Black farmers
From Lolita Watkins: "I served as the caucus captain for the state of North Carolina in June of 2023 for the Bread for the World Farm Bill Advocacy Summit in Washington, DC. The particular dates were June 10-June 13, 2023. Farm Bill advocates or food justice advocates were summoned to Washington, DC to visit our congressional leaders to urge their support of the Farm Bill. The state of North Carolina had the largest delegation represented at this meeting. The youth in these photos live in eastern North Carolina and the young man in the picture is a congressional aide in the office of Congresswoman Alma Adams. Our group was so large we met outside in the courtyard of the Rayburn House Office Building. The meeting lasted about 45 minutes. Each student and I shared our thoughts or reasons for supporting the Farm Bill. Congressman Adams has proposed several pieces of legislation for consideration to Congress on food insecurity."
