Primarily documents Alice Starr May's service with the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps and Women's Army Corps. May recalls wanting to join the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps as a way to learn something and see the world. She describes the physical difficulties of basic training, as well as the fun she had, and her delight when the WAACs became the Women's Army Corps because she felt like a part of the real army-air force. May describes the respect she had for the men in the military, how proud she was to be a soldier and an American, and the comradeship she experienced.
