Oral History interview with Rachel Ann Brune
Primarily documents the life of Rachel Ann Brune and her service with the United States Army and U.S. Army Reserve. Brune recalls the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City, and the impact it had on her decision to join the military. She describes the journalism training she received in Advanced Individual Training, the friendships she made, and her disappointment with not being able to accompany her press unit to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, due to there being too many journalists. Brune recalls her deployments to Kuwait and Iraq, the gender issues she faced while overseas, and the intimidation she felt at times from other soldiers. She also describes the journalism responsibilities she was tasked with, and her current work with Task and Purpose, a military interest website.
