The Textiles and Artifacts digital collections contain photographs of three-dimensional objects related to the history of UNCG.
The University Archives Textile Collection is part of the University Archives. The Textile Collection contains over 400 items, showcasing the historical chronology of the University. Particular strengths of the Collection include academic regalia, class jackets, gym suits, flags, and banners, dating from 1892 to the present. Of special interest are the World War I Red Cross uniforms and overcoat created by Abercrombie & Fitch, a surgical gown, and additional accessories owned by Dr. Anna Gove, campus physician from 1893-1937.
The University Archives Textile Collection is kept in a climate controlled storage area and are not on permanent public display. However, it is a teaching collection and is available to students, scholars, and the general public through exhibits, academic classes, and by appointment during normal weekday business hours when the University is in session. You are also invited to access the Collection through the Department’s Web site; the majority of items in the collection are represented in this digital collection.
