of
Cornelia
Phillips
Spencer
, a
poet

social
historian
, and
journalist
. She was
instrumental
in
having
the
University
of
North
Carolina
at
Chapel
Hill
reopened
after
Reconstruction
. In
1949
until
1953
, the
campus
post
office
was
located
in the
basement
of
South
Spencer
Residence
Hall
.
