Description	Entrance to the Weatherspoon Gallery inside the McIver Building, circa 1967. The entrance was located on the east side of the building. The Weatherspoon Art Museum was founded in 1941 and named in honor of Elizabeth McIver Weatherspoon, art teacher and sister of founding President Charles Duncan McIver. It was originally called the Weatherspoon Art Gallery and was housed in the McIver Building, where it had a separate entrance. In 1989, the museum moved into the Cone Building which was named for Anne Wortham Cone (Class of 1935) and her husband, Benjamin Cone, Sr. The McIver Building, designed by J. N. Pease and Company of Raleigh, North Carolina, opened in 1960 and was named in honor of Charles Duncan McIver, founder and first president of the university. It was built to replace the previous McIver Memorial Building that stood from 1908 to 1958 in the same location.
