Description	Gordon W. Blackwell (1911-2004) served as chancellor of the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina from 1957-1960. Blackwell describes the building of the faculty of the department of sociology at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and talks about the administrations of University of North Carolina leaders including Frank Porter Graham, Robert House, and William Friday. He describes his impressions of the academic quality and strong faculty at Woman's College, the divisions between 'old-guard' faculty and new faculty and the period of transition of Woman's College moving towards university status and coeducation. He recalls the first integrated dance on campus, the 'Black Stockings' protesting for alcohol on campus, Woman's College student involvement in the Woolworth Sit-ins and his participation on the interracial committee appointed by the mayor.
