Description	This photograph shows fountain Plaza filled with students. The Dining Halls can be seen to the right and the Quadrangle residence halls can be seen in the background. The Fountain Plaza opened in 1991. It is located between the Dining Halls and the Quadrangle, and consists of landscaped terraces and a fountain. The Dining Halls complex was built over a span of thirty-five years. Spencer Dining Hall was built in 1904, West (later Spartan) Dining Hall in 1921, South Dining Hall (later State) in 1924, Kitchen in 1927, and North Dining Hall in 1939. The four dining rooms and kitchen extend like spokes from the hub of a wheel. The complex was renovated in 1987-1988. The Quadrangle, commonly known as ‘the Quad,” was built between 1919 and 1923. The seven dormitories that make up the area were all designed by Harry Barton of Greensboro, North Carolina: Bailey Residence Hall (1922), Coit Residence Hall (1923), Cotten Residence Hall (1922), Gray Residence Hall (1921), Hinshaw Residence Hall (1922), Jamison Residence Hall (1923), and Shaw Residence Hall (1919).
