Description	Dorothy (Dot) Kendall Kearns was born in High Point, North Carolina, in 1931. She attended Woman's College of the University of North Carolina (now UNCG), graduating in 1953, with a B.A. in Sociology. Mrs. Kearns later returned to UNCG to obtain her M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling, which she attained in 1974. After graduation, Mrs. Kearns worked in teaching, social work, and real estate. Mrs. Kearns has served in many public offices including (but not limited to): High Point Board of Education (1972-1982), President of NC SChool Boards Association (1980-1981), Guilford County Board of Commissioners (1982-1990) Chairman (1985-1988), Chair of National Assoc. of Counties Health and Education Policy Committee (1986-1989) and Democratic member of Guilford County Board of Elections (2010-present). Mrs. Kearns has remained an active supporter of UNCG through her work with the Class of 1953's Gift Committee (co-chair) and in raising money for the University. In this interview, Mrs. Kearns primarily discusses her early life and family, her years and experience as an undergraduate at Woman's College (now UNCG), and her work for UNCG after graduating.
