Description	This photograph shows a Christmas Tree in the Elliott University Center Terrace, outside of the Elliott Student Union, lit up at night in December 1960. People can be seen on the balcony of the Elliott Student Union. The Terrace, or “Patio,” opened in 1953, at the same time that the first wing of Elliott Student Union was built. It is located behind Elliott University Center and includes the pavers and kidney shaped fountain.

Folder description	This building, designed by Northrup O’Brien of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, opened in 1953. It was named in honor of Harriet Wiseman Elliott who came to the College in 1913 and was Dean of Women from 1935 to 1947. From 1953 until 1958, the Elliott Student Union housed the campus post office. The building was expanded and renovated in 1968. In April 1974, the name of the building was changed from Elliott Student Union, commonly known as “Elliott Hall,” to Elliott University Center.
