Veteran's biography	Audrey Knyrim Mattern (1919-2004) of Hazelton, Pennsylvania, worked in the Quartermaster Department with the Marine Corps Women's Reserve from 1943 to 1945 . Audrey Knyrim Mattern was born in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, on 20 November 1919, the oldest of six children. Her father was a machinist for the Cranberry Collier and a janitor and her mother was a homemaker. Mattern graduated from Hazel Senior High School in 1937 and then held various positions at a five-and-ten cent store, weekly newspaper, credit bureau, and jewelry store." Mattern enlisted in the Marine Corps Women's Reserve in March 1943 and received orders in July. She attended basic training at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and in September 1943 was sent to Henderson Hall in Arlington, Virginia, where she was stationed in the Statistical Department of the Quartermaster Department. She remained there until her discharge on 6 October 1945." Mattern returned to her job at the jewelry store in Hazelton in the fall of 1945. In 1948 she moved to Denver, Colorado, and spent three years working in the offices of Montgomery Ward. She married Dick Mattern in January 1949. Audrey Mattern passed away in 2004.
