Nurse
Corps
from
1942
to
1945
.
Carrie

(1919-2012)
was
born
in
Montrose
,
Arkansas
. She
graduated
from
Lake
Village
High
School
in
1937
and then
completed
the
three-year
nurse
training
program
at
Touro
Infirmary
in
New
Orleans
. She
remained
there
working
as a
nurse
for a
year
.
Radnik
joined
the
Army
Nurse
Corps
in
May
of
1942
and was
assigned
to the
wards
at
Camp
Livingston
,
Louisiana
. In
May
1943
she
received
orders
overseas
and was
sent
to
Orange
,
New
Jersey
, for
training
. She
set
sail
from
New
York
aboard
the
Henry
Gibbons
and
arrived
in
Brisbane
,
Australia
, in
June
of
1943
.
Radnick
was
assigned
to the
42nd
General
Hospital
in
Bribane
for
three
months
, then was
sent
to the
87th
Station
Hospital
in
Doba
Dura
,
New
Guinea
until
March
1944
.
After
her
return
stateside
she was
stationed
in
Columbia
,
South
Carolina
, and
Charlotte
,
North
Carolina
. In
November
of
1944
she
married
Martin
Radnik
, and in
March
of
1945
she was
discharged
due
to
pregnancy
.
After
their
service
,
Radnik
and her
husband
lived
in
Chicago
and
raised
four
children
.
Radnik
returned
to
nursing
in the
early
1960s
. In the
mid-1990s
the
Radniks
settled
in
Greensboro
.
Radnik
died
14
March
2012
at the
age
of
92
.
