Ann
Kaplowitz
Goldberg
was
born
on

November
1924
in
Brooklyn
,
New
York
, to
Russian
parents
. She
attended
Thomas
Jefferson
High
School
in
New
York
and
worked
as a
secretary
before
joining
the
military.

Goldberg
enlisted
in the
Women’s
Army
Corps
on
7
December
1944
and
became
part
of the
U.S
.
Army
Air
Force
.
After
basic
training
at
Fort
Oglethorpe
,
Georgia
, in
early
1945
,
Goldberg
served
at
Sheppard
Field
in
Wichita
Falls
,
Texas
.
Due
to a
broken
arm
, she was
transferred
from
radio
operator
school
to the
Army
Airways
Communication
System
headquarters
in
Asheville
,
North
Carolina
. There,
Goldberg
worked
with
classified
files
in a
secure
room
in
city
hall
.
Goldberg
did
similar
work
with the
AACS
(Army
Airway
Communications
System)
at
Langley
Field
,
Virginia
,
where
she was
transferred
to in
fall
1945
. She was
discharged
on
21
February
1946
at
Fort
Dix
,
New
Jersey
, as a
sergeant
.
Ann
Kaplowitz
married
Abe
Goldberg
after
the
war
. They
lived
in
Brooklyn
,
New
York
,
California
,
Nevada
,
Maine
, and
Florida
and had
two
sons
.
Goldberg
continued
to
work
,
including
as a
secretary
at
Fieldston
School
in the
Bronx
. She
died
in
Florida
on
26
April
,
2009
.
