Alice
Starr
May
was
born
on
21
July
,
1926
and
raised
in
White
Bluff
,
Arkansas
. In
May
of
1943
, at the
age
of
seventeen
,
May
decided
to
join
the
Women's
Army
Auxiliary
Corps
,
which
became
the
Women's
Army
Corps
on
July
1
,
1943
. She
attended
basic
training
at
Fort
Oglethorpe
,
Georgia
.
May
was then
assigned
to
Lowry
Field
in
Denver
,
Colorado
to be
trained
in
photography
. Her
next
assignment
was
Eglin
Field
,
Florida
to
learn
about
dark
room
photography
and how to be a
film
projectionist
. She was
assigned
to the
projection
room
where
she
assisted
in
showing
military
test
films
to
high
ranking
military
officials
,
including
General
George
S
.
Patton
.
While
at
Eglin
,
May
met
her
future
husband
James
in the
Officers
'
Club
. They
married
, and
six
months
later
May
became
pregnant
with her
first
child
and she had to
leave
the
military
.
Although
she was
no
longer
enlisted
,
May's
husband
remained
in the
army
and they
lived
in
numerous
places
during
his
military
career
,
including
Germany
,
Puerto
Rico
, and
Spain
.
May
currently
resides
in
Lexington
,
North
Carolina
.
