$50 REWARD.
RAN AWAY ON THE 18th OF MAY LAST, (1859,) my negro man EDMUND, a carpenter by trade. Said negro Edmond is a bright mulatto, of medium size, supposed to weigh about 135 or 140 lbs., and is 46 years old ; his hair is long and waivy[sic], interspersed with gray ; beard and whiskers very grey, and when not newly shaved, has the appearance of being much older than he is ; his gait is quick, straight and smooth, carrying a well balanced head ; his teeth are bad, and nearly all the upper front ones missing ; he has a scar on his forehead of considerable length, but the most distinctive mark is a wen (or callous excressence[sic]) on one of his temples, (I think the right) in the line of his hair, which would identify him in the absence of all other marks. This ""wen"" or excressence[sic], can only be seen when his hat is off and his hair pushed back. He is seemingly fond of religious devotion - such as making long prayers and singing religious songs. Edmond was brought to this State from Virginia by David McDaniel, and sold to my brother, Dr. J. H. Drake, from whom I purchased him in December, 1858. He has a wife at Maj. [Major] Jno. [John] Thomas's, Cedar Rock, Franklin county. I think he can read and write, and may have forged free papers, and perhaps may be passing as a free negro. Edmond is known to be lurking in Warren, Franklin, and my own county, Nash. I will give tha[sic] above reward of Fifty Dollars for his apprehension and delivery to me at my home, near Castalia, or Twenty-five Dollars for his confinement in any jail so that I get him.
JNO. [John] G. F. DRAKE.
