Object narrative	Autograph of Augustin Daly (1838-1899) was given in Brooklyn, NY on Nov. 23, 1888 according to the note written above his signature in another hand. He signs it Very Willingly, Augustin Daly. Born in North Carolina, Daly had a career as a theatre critic, manager, producer, director, and playwright. Daly, who didnt believe in the star system, used realistic production techniques and was compared to Wagner in his attempts to create a gesamptkuntswerk. Dalys work could be said to demonstrate the transition from the romantic period to real theatre.
