Item description	Cabinet card of Dame Ellen Terry circa 1893. This card was produced by Theo C. Marceau Fotografer in San Francisco, USA.
Object narrative	Dame Ellen Terry (1847-1928), a famous British actress during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, was known for partnering with Sir Henry Irving and the Lyceum Theatre Company for twenty-four years from 1878-1902, during which she played such roles as Portia in ' The Merchant of Venice,'; Ophelia in ' Hamlet,'; Lady Macbeth in ' Macbeth,'; and Margaret in ' Faust.'; She toured with the Lyceum Theatre Company to the United States several times, and eventually returned again to do a series of lectures on Shakespeare as part of a world lecture tour from 1910-1921. The photograph was produced by Theo C. Marceau Fotografer in San Francisco, CA, possibly while the Lyceum Company was on tour there in Sept. 1893 on their Fourth American Tour.
