~or~t~ FREEZER
Remove all shipping paper and cardboard and
clean Freezer with a baking soda solution ( 1
tablespoon of soda in 1 quart of warm water.)
Rinse and wipe dry. Allow Freezer to operate
two or three hours before adding food.
Located behind the base panel. Open the Freezer
door and remove base panel by pulling straight
out. The dial settings range from 1 to 7 with 7
being the coldest position. To maintain an approximate
zero degree temperature, set the Temperature
Control Dial to the number 3 position.
Dial may be adjusted to a warmer or colder setting,
if desired.
All Hotpoint Freezers feature a Light Touch
Door which may be opened easily from the outside
or inside. With the new magnetic door gasket
design, no latching mechanism is needed.
The gasket (sealing strip around the door), contains
millions of small magnets that provide an
efficient door seal for the long life of the Freezer.
Model FR17 Upright Freezer. The upper door
opens with a handle while the lower door is
opened by using the convenient foot pedal.
Freezing coils line some of the wire shelves. These freezing shelves provide for fast freezing
and are designed to provide controlled, even temperatures for frozen food storage
throughout the cabinet. Place room temperature foods to be frozen on one of the shelves
lined with coils for the fastest freezing.
The other wire shelves provide space for general frozen food storage.
FL model freezers feature a wire grid which should be placed on the bottom of the
cabinet liner in order to provide proper air circulation under and around the foods stored
in this area.
On several models, one of the racks has been designed
to hold frozen juice cans. Drop cans in at
the top and remove from the bottom.
The other door shelves (found on some
models) are ideal for storing frequently-used
items. To add or remove foods in models FL12
or FP12, lift rack up, then tilt to stop position.
A special section on the door has been provided for juice can storage. Merely drop cans in
at the top and remove them from the bottom. Storage area for the No-Spill ice cube
trays has been provided below the basket on the Freezer compartment liner. The specially
designed Hotpoint No-Spill ice cube trays mean added convenience in ice tray handling
and storage. To fill trays, place center of tray under tap. Fill to water level mark as indicated
by markings on grid- about three quarters full.
To remove cubes, place tray on flat surface and lift up on handle. The grid and No-Spill
cover can be easily lifted off and the desired number of cubes removed. An extra supply of
ice cubes may be stored in ice container in the Freezer.

To clean ice trays, use warm or hot tap water only with baking
soda, if desired. Do not use boiling water, soaps, detergents or
scouring aids. These cleaning agents will remove the protective
wax on the trays. This special protective wax prevents the cubes
from sticking or shattering when the grid is released.
As an added feature, a special ice cube storage container has
been provided. It should be placed in the top door shelf of the
lower door. To add or remove container from door shelf, merely
lift guard rail.
The large storage basket (found on some models) is located at the bottom of the Freezer
compartment and glides out easily for adding and removing foods. This basket may be
removed entirely for cleaning or defrosting by pulling straight out.
Model FR17 features a large swing-out basket in the lower section. To remove the basket
for cleaning or defrosting, swing basket out and lift up and out at the hinge side. When
replacing the basket, the holes in the basket supports should rest firmly on the supports
provided on the Freezer liner.
The interior light, found in some models, is located behind the Hotpoint nameplate at
the center top of the cabinet liner. If the lamp should burn out, a replacement may be
purchased from your Hotpoint Dealer.
FR17-0ne interior light is located on the inside of the upper
Freezer section. A light has also been provided in the lower section
of the FR17. This light, located on the top of the Freezer
liner, is replaced by merely unscrewing it and replacing with a
25-watt Refrigerator lamp.
Frost should be removed when its accumulation becomes excessive. You will want to plan
on defrosting the Freezer when the frozen food supply is low. Remove frozen food packages
to the Refrigerator or pack together in large carton and cover with paper. Remove
storage basket, if present. Defrost the Freezer by disconnecting it and placing a large pan
of warm water on each freezing she!£ An empty pan placed on the bottom of the Freezer
compartment will catch much of the defrost water and the remainder should be wiped out
with a cloth or sponge as the frost melts. Do not allow defrost water to collect on Freezer
liner. Never use a sharp or pointed instrument or a wire brush for defrosting.
Leave door open to accelerate defrosting. Defrost time will vary with the amount of
frost that has accumulated. When the Freezer is free of frost, the interior may be cleaned
with baking soda solution ( 1 tablespoon soda in 1 quart warm water). Wipe interior dry.
Connect Freezer and replace packages.
Locks-Model FR17 is equipped with locks so food may be kept secure regardless of
where the Freezer is located. The locks are located on the edge of the door.
If you plan to put the Freezer in storage or discontinue its
use, be sure to defrost Freezer and wipe dry before stopping
operation. If possible, the door or doors, should be left ajar
to allow room air to circulate through the cabinet.
A~T~~
This control is located on the interior of the Freezer liner. The
Temperature Control Dial is marked from 1 to 6 with 6 being
the coldest setting. The setting marked 1 is designed to maintain
an approximate zero degree temperature. The Dial may be adjusted
to a colder setting, if desired.
The lid is counterl5ai.anced so it will stay in the open position, leaving both hands free for
loading. The lid sealing mechanism is located in the hinges to provide a positive lid seal,
yet the lid can be opened from either the inside or outside. If model FJ13 is located in an
area where it would be advisable to lock it in order that food will be kept secure, an ordinary
padlock may be used.
Freezer models FK17, 20 and 26 have cylinder type locks which are operated with a
key. The lock is located next to the handle or handles.

The interior light (contained on some models) is located in the Freezer lid. If the lamp
should burn out, a replacement may be purchased from your Hotpoint Dealer.

The indicator light on the front of some models indicates
that the Freezer is operating satisfactorily. It will not go on as
soon as you plug in the Freezer, but will shine when the desired
temperature is reached. If the light goes out, this means
that the electricity to the Freezer is interrupted, the temperature
in the Freezer is too high or the bulb has burned out.
STORAGE BASKETS-Several
Hotpoint Chest-type Freezers have removable storage baskets to provide a convenient
method of separating foods. Wire extensions at each end of each basket form supports
so they can be moved easily along the glide rail, and the diagonally placed handles
make it easy to lift out fully loaded baskets. To reach the lower section, lift out just one
basket, then slide the others along the glide rail to bring any part of the lower section
within reach.
COMPARTMENT SEPARATORS- Convenient compartment separators, found on some
models, divide the lower section into handy areas.
FREEZING COILS- These coils line all four walls of the Freezer. For fastest freezing, place
food to be frozen as close as possible to Freezer walls.
DEFROSTING -Frost should be scraped from the walls of the Food Freezer when accumulation
interferes with the sliding of the baskets. You will want to plan on defrosting the
Freezer when the frozen food supply is low. Remove frozen food packages to Refrigerator
or pack together in large carton and cover with paper. Remove baskets and compartment
separators (found on some models). Use a spatula, plastic or wooden paddle to remove
frost. Scrape the frost onto a baking sheet, pan or other utensil which will fit tightly against
the liner wall. Note: Never use a sharp or pointed instrument for scraping off frost.
If you plan to put the Freezer in storage or discontinue its use,
be sure to defrost Freezer and wipe dry before stopping operation.
If possible, the lid or lids, should be left ajar to allow room
air to circulate through the cabinet.
INFORMATION PERTAINING TO ALL HOTPOINT FREEZERS
REFRIGERATION SYSTEM-The hermetically sealed Thriftmaster® Unit is permanently
oiled and sealed at the factory; it will not need any attention from you.
LIGHT TOUCH DOOR- All Freezers feature a door closure which may be opened from
either the inside or outside easily.
THE CONDENSER on all chest-type Freezers is located between the inside and outside walls
of the Freezer. Its natural heat may make the exterior feel warm. This is normal.
The condenser on all upright Freezers is located on the rear of the cabinet. Good Freezer
performance depends on ventilation through the condenser, so be sure that paper bags,
etc., do not fall behind the Freezer or obstruct the space above the condenser.
ELECTRIC SERVICE INTERRUPTION
If the electric service is interrupted, keep lid or door of the Freezer closed. The greater
the quantity of frozen food it contains, the longer the Freezer will hold the food at a safe
temperature. Generally, the Freezer will keep the food safe for 48 hours after power is
interrupted. However, should the interruption last more than eight hours and you wish to
be certain that the food remains solidly frozen, it should be transferred to a locker plant,
or packed with dry ice in the Freezer cabinet. Dry ice usually may be purchased from an
ice or ice cream plant or a locker plant. To keep food solidly frozen, you will need approximately
one and a half pounds of dry ice for each cubic foot capacity of the Freezer.
This will keep food frozen for 24 hours, after which more dry ice must be added unless
electric service has been restored.
CLEANING
When cleaning the exterior, wash with a mild suds and water, rinse with clear water and
wipe dry. Then polish with Hotpoint Polish (available from your Hotpoint Dealer or
Distributor.)
DISCARDED FREEZERS OR FREEZER STORAGE
The unfortunate accidents involving children accidentally trapped in an old Rt"frigt'rator
or Freezer can he eliminated if the door or lid is removed from unusnl hox. This is ,lone
by unscrewing the hinges. If a Freezer is to be stored in a basement, garage. etc, either
remove the door or lid or place in such a way that it cannot be opt'ned ( latlh handle side
of cabin<.:t facing against a wall).

RECESSED
UPRIGHT
FREEZER
If you are planning to install your Freezer in a recess or are building
the Freezer in, observe the following instructions:
1. Opening of recess should allow 1 inch total clearance on the
sides of Freezer. Also allow 3 inches minimum over the top of
the Freezer for ventilation. If a grill or louver is to be used
over the Freezer, the openings in that grill should total at
least 90 square inches.
2. Center cabinet in wall opening. Plug Freezer in (locate outlet
in rear of recess ). Push Freezer into location so that door will
not touch sides of opening when the Freezer door is opened.
Do not remove spacer bumpers on rear of Freezer.
