For many thousands of women the path to health has ·
certainly been through Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound.
From the time this great medicine was introduced
it has grown in po'pularity until it is recognized as the best
as well as the best known medicine for women.
Disorders of the female organs affect the nerves, cause
irritability, impatience and restlessness, and the whole household
is upset. The trouble may begin in early girlhood.
The periods of menstruation begin between the ages of eleven
and fifteen years. It is necessary that girls should be wisely
instructed at this age and mothers who fail to do so are criminally
negligent.
All girls require a_rest at this time and many need a change
of air. Nutritious food is essential and special dainties may
. be prepared if the appetite is capricious. Milk and eggs
should be taken between meals and a great deal of sleep is
required, preferably in the open air.
. . Girls need recreation but at this age should not be allowed
too vigorous exercise if unused to it and should not
dance, take long walks, or do any hard work while menstruating.
They muf3t also be careful not to get wet feet or to
stand around in the cold or damp. These precautions sometimes
seem foolish to a young and healthy girl but it is dangerous
to ignore them.
Every woman needs a medicine now and then, no matter
how healthy she is in a general way. That terrible ache which
is more a bearing-dow:n feeling than a pain and which comes
from an inward weakness should yield to Lydia E. Pinkham's
Vegetable Compound.
The many convincing testimonials constantly published
ought to be proof enough to women who suffer that Lydia E.
Pinkham's Vegetable Compound is what they need.

r Sandwiches, of course, form the foundation
of a:t:)y lunch and are of endless
variety.
The bread should be at least twenty.
four hours old and should be sliced very
~~~~- thin; if the edges are trimmed off · the
sandwiches are daintier but many prefer
leaving the crust on.
Home-made bread is preferable and it can be brown,
white, graham or rye, and may have. nuts, raisins or dates
worked into it.
Date bread makes a nice sandwich with only butter for
the filling.
ATTENTION, MOTHERS!
Have you a daughter from twelve to fifteen years of age, who is
beginning to tell you of headaches,, pains in the back and lower limbs,
and in whom you notice signs of nervousness, irritability ,increased desire
tc sleep and slowness of thought not observed in the early, active years
of childhood? If so, you know the meaning of these signs, that they
are symptoms of approaching maturity,
"I COULD NOT GET MY MONTHLYS
RIGHT."
five years and could not get my monthlys right.
I was not fit to do my work at t imes und t ook
"l HAD MENSTRUATED A. YEAR WHEN THE FLOW S' TOPPED"
"I was about 13 years old and had menstruated
a year when the flow stopped. My mother
took me to a doctor and I doctored for several
months. I was too sick to· do anything, was as
thin aa could be, and my complexion was yellow.
Mother had used Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable
'she got some for me and before I had finished the
second bottle I began menstruating again.
When I had finished the third bottle I was feeling
fine and have ever since with the, exception
of one time after I was married but I took the
DO NOT OVERWORK.
The-injurious effects of hard or heavy work on a young girl cannot
be over-estimated. · She should never lift heavy articles and at. certain
times in· the month should not stand for long hours·or do high reaching.
"l WOULD LIFT HEAVY BOXES"
"When I was a young girl I clerked in my
father's store and w<mld lift heavy boxes and
"MY MENSTRU~TION WAS EXCESSIVE" '
"For four or five months my menstruation
was excessive and would last from one to· two
weeks. I really believe I lost ten times as
much as I should. It was very weakening
ano. l would have the appearance of a woman
jusr recovering from a bad spell of sickness
every month. I was only able to do light house-work.
I had seen your medicine extensively
advertised and thought I would give it a fall'
to directions and I feel like a different
woman. I have not taken any medicine during
the last three_months and I believe my ailment
11lT FELT LIKE A KNIFE GOING THROUGH ME"
· "When I was 19 years old menstruation
came every three weeks and I had such t errible
cramps it felt like a knife going through me. I
took Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable' Compound
and was relieved. After I was married I had
the same tro'uble caused by the added work of
farming and heavy washings so I told my
husband to get six bottles of the Vegetable
Compound and by taking it regularly my
troubles ceased and now I never have an ache
or pain; don't even know when menstruation
starts it is so easy. It comes every 28 days and
lasts only three days when it used to last six. I
recommend the Vegetable Compound and think
every girl from 15 to 17 should take it."
