Description	Dr. George Harrison Evans came to Martin's on September 28, 1948. After obtaining his medical degree from Meharry Medical College and serving his residency at the Polyclinic Hospital in New York City, Evans began practicing medicine in Greensboro in 1935. Dr. Evans was very much involved in the wider community. He served a crucial role as chariman of the Mayor's Committee on Human Relations during the civil rights demonstrations in 1960 and served an equally important role for ten years as a member of the Greensboro Board of Education. He received the NAACP's Man of the Year award in 1981.
