up
in the
Terra
Cotta
community
,
located
in
Southwest
Greensboro
near
the
corner
of
West
Wendover
and
Norwalk
Street
.
Wendover
Avenue
,
called
Clifton
Road
before
1971
, was
originally
a
two-lane
unpaved
road
. The
Caldwells
raised
chickens
and
pigs
, had
gardens
and
fruit
trees
(apple
,
pear
,
plum
,
peach
and
hickory
nut)
, and
only
went
to
town
to
visit
the
doctor
or
buy
staples
like
flour
or
sugar
.
Terra
Cotta
is
still
a
distinct
community
and
holds
homecoming
festivals
every
year
.
