Collection description |
Troy V. Gilley (1915-1989) and his wife Alice Martin Gilley (1916-2014) ) operated the Tip Top Service Station and Grocery Store at 4608 Summit Avenue in Greensboro for over 35 years. Mrs. Gilley was born January 30, 1916 in Winterville, NC to Charles Quincy Martin and Queenie Barber Martin. She was the youngest of five children, raised during the Great Depression. This collection, which was assembled by their daughter, Marjorie Liles, includes numerous images relating to the service station and store, and the Summit Avenue area where the store was located. There are also interesting family related images of leisure time at the beach .
