Affirmative Action
Iford College president
Grimsley Hobbs announces
lhat Bud Place has been
appointed Affirmative Action
Officer for the College. He will
be responsible for the
development and implementation of the College Affirmative
Action Plan. The following
memorandum was issued to
all Guilford College Faculty
and Staff:
Title VII of the Civil Rights
Act of 1964, as amended, and
Presidential Executive Order
11246, as amended, makes
equal employment opportunity the law of the Nation..
These laws apply to all
segments of American society,
including educational institutions.
In essence, it, is now
unlawful to discriminate in
any personnel action because
of race, creed, color, religion,
sex, age or national origin.
These personnel actions
include, but are not limited to,
employment, upgrading, demotion, transfer, recruitment,
recruitment advertisement,
layoff or termination, rates of
pay, training opportunities, or
other forms of compensation.
Guilford College will adhere
to the provisions of the law in
all of its personnel actions. In
complying with the spirit and
the letter of the legal
requirement, the College is
seeking to meet even more
fully its moral obligation to
ensure that all citizens have
equal employment opportunity as well as the chance to
grow and develop to the fullest
of their potential.
Professing belief in the
moral and legal validity of
equal opportunity is not
enough. Each member of the
faculty and staff must assure
that every reasonable action is
being taken to make equal
opportunity a clear reality.
According, faculty and staff
members are asked to
cooperate in developing and
implementing the Guilford
College Affirmative Action
Plan in a manner consistent
with the law and the moral
beliefs in which we have long
been pledged.
I urge your cooperation in
this program.
