Woman's College Admits
One More Negro Student
A :third Negro. .student has
been, admitted to the fall .^session
at Woman's Co 11 eg e'f Acting
Chancellor W./W. Pierson announced today.
Two others entered last fall as
freshmen and plan to return for
further study this year, he said
New student is Margaret
Patterson of Lenoir, who lists
her plan to study for a bachelor of arts degree. She has
not been assigned to a dormitory, according to Dean of
Students Katherine Taylor.
The returning Negro students,
Elizabeth Jo Ann Smart of* Raleigh and Mrs, Betsy Ann Davis
Tillm&n of Wadesboro, have
been assigned single rooms in
upperclass ' dormitories, Miss
Taylor said.
Five new applications :for- admission have been received ^roSi
Negroes, Pierson said,*⁢gorily
one has been admitted taydate.
There have also been many inquiries about entrance from Negro students, he said.
\ "There has been no difference
in the method of processing their
applications," %Pierson emphasized, "the same type of information has been given to persons writing in, regardless of
race. Margaret Patterson has
been the only one to fulfill all
the requirements," he stated
Several Negro graduaje students have also applied for admission to the summer session,
the chancellor said, "but none
of them has satisfied the; requirements."
