Another Negro student has
met requirements for admission
to Woman's College and will enter the freshman class at the beginning of the fall session* Acting Chancellor W. W. Pierson
said yesterday.
The student is Margaret Patterson of Lenoir. She is the
third Negro to be admitted to
Woman's College.
Two Negro students, Elizabeth
Jo Ann Smart of Raleigh and
Mrs. Betsy Ann Davis Tillman
of Wadesboro, entered the college as freshmen last year. Both
plan to return in September,
Pierson said.
Dean Katherine Taylor said
Miss Patterson has not been assigned to a dormitory, but said
that Miss Smart and Mrs. Tillman have been assigned single
rooms in upperclass dormitories.
There have been five applications from Negroes for admission
at the beginning of the fall term,
but Pierson said that only Miss
Patterson fulfilled all the requirements for admission.
