Miss Cathy E. Krinick
Ragsdale Dormitory
The Campus
Dear Miss Krinick:
I am writing to acknowledge receipt of your letter of April 19, 1973, addressed
to the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in
which you and your associates indicated that you do not wish to have your names
included in Miss Jacqueline Coleman's appeal to the Board of Trustees of my
decision concerning the Senate's reclassification of the Neo-Black Society.
I am transmitting your letter to Mr. Beverly C. Moore, Chairman of the Board
of Trustees of the University, and am making arrangements for copies to go to
all other members of the Board.
You may be aware of the fact that up to this time neither Miss Coleman nor any
other student has actually submitted an appeal. On the other hand, five students
did file suit in the United States District Court for the Middle District of North
Carolina, Greensboro Division, on April 30, 1973. I do not know whether this
action was adopted in lieu of the appeal by the Student Senate or not. We have
contacted the Attorney General of North Carolina who will serve as Counsel for
the University and have indicated that we wish to file an answer to the suit
initiated by Douglas Harris, et al.
I do appreciate your offer of help. It may be that the Attorney General or his
associate will want to talk with several of you sometime soon.
Sincerely,
James S. Ferguson
Chancellor
