Dear Mr. Morgan:
As you will see from the enclosed material, this morning I was served with
a summons to respond in United States District Court for the Middle District
of North Carolina Greensboro Division, to a civil action taken by five students
as plantiffs against me, the Trustees of the University of North Carolina at
Greensboro, and two students who serve as officials of the Neo-Black Society
on the campus of the University. The response is due within 20 days after service
of the summons which occurred at 10:00 a.m. today, May 1, 1973.
I have notified President William C. Friday, President of the University of North
Carolina, and Mr. Richard H. Robinson, Jr., Assistant to the President, of
this action and have forwarded to them copies of the Complaint and Motions for
Temporary Restraining Order, Preliminary Injunction, and Permanent Injunction.
I shall appreciate your assistance in this matter. Of course, my administrative
associates and I will be available at any time to provide information concerning
this matter.
