POLITICAL BULLETIN
It is a Question of Life or Death
To be separated or to be free} to be integrated or to be liberated; to become
dependent or to remain independent! to Jive or to bs serious; to party or to work;
to lose our identity or to maintain it; to have a Black Department head or to have
the oppressor; to be indoctrinated or to be educated; to be for our paople or to be
against them; to have a Brother or Sister for a roommate or to have a cracker fer a
roommate; to be happy or to be sad; end finally,, to let U3 be merged with UeNeC.~G.
or to struggle and save the 8T'.
Brothers and Sisters, these are some hard but fundamental questions that we
must, by necessity, address ourselves to, because by definition, the answer to these
questions can determine our existence or our extinction as a student bf>dy and as a
people. We must not look at -the U0N0C0~G0—A&T merger question as an isolated in- ■
cident, but we have to see that there is a large scale conspiracy to destroy all
Black institutims. If you don8t qui to understand sshat I'm trying ta say, just g©
hnme and look for your high school, and then you'll seo where we will be if we dan't
seriously come together in a united effort, use all of «ur mentalities and energies
in the interest of keeping A&T as it is—bocauso it is nara, it's beautiful, and it's
a leader among Black institutions across the wfcftle nation* .And everybody sema to
understand that except some of our people right here (some faculty members; i.e.
the Faculty Senate, who voted unanimously to let our school be merged),, This is
not to say that A&T is "better" than any of our brother schools, but it is a fact
that we have been our leader from the very beginning,, We are a Big., Black, Shiny
symbol of African Power, strength, and unity to all of our peonlo, that include
students at Howard, Hampton, Fisk and all others* They want to be like us because
they know what we are about. We have proven ourselves to the eyes of the world. We
have gone too far to give up now. We will not give up or become weaker, but we will
struggle more and become stronger. We have to, not because we?-want to, but because
for our people—we must. We must understand that if we crumble and fall without a .
struggle, N.C.C., Jlorida A&M, Winston-Salem and all others will have no hopes of
moving on, because it is a fact that if the strongest can't stand its ground, the
weakest won't have a chance.
So Brothers and Sisters, for the sake of the blood of our ancestors, for the
sake of our *wn existovxce, for the sake of the future of our little Brothers and
Sisters at home, for the sake of Black People all over the 'world, and maybe even
for God's sake, please, Brothers and Sisters, please be SERIOUS. STOP THE MERGER,
and SAVE THE " T" . Keep the faith and maintain the committment that we made last
night in Harrison. All of us must meet in Harrison at IsOO p^on. sharp tomorrm-r (Thurs)e
And finally, I must say with all sincerity, that as cold and as vicious as the
Faculty Senate was to our proposal, and as deeply as it hurts us to sae them not even
willing to listen to us go through "proper channels", we have not time or energy to
hold any animosity against any of them, because in the final analysis, we will be
together in our efforts because we are the same people and our efforts in this fight . •
are the same whether we realize" it or not. -If there is a merger, there can only be *
one student body president, one Mis3 U.N.C.-G., one football team, and there can also
be only one school president, one Department Chairman, and one Dean of Students©
So in essence, in order to survive, we must be united and committed, and I em
for working with all Black people and I am dedicated to all. To this end, I now
make this solemn and honest pledge.
"Lam.a Black and proud warrior dedicated to the ' '•■
> Liberation of jny people. My purpose is to protsct-fche
the Black community and its people from all aggressors."
I believe in Black culture as the motivating force for unity md libsrationa
I recognize Africa as the motherland, and its people as jay people,, I pledge to
DEFEND BLACKNESS (AScT), follow my designated leaders, and be-a faithful servant
of Black nationalism.
We must do Black things today in order to insure us of a Black tomorrow©
With an undying love for A&T and its paople,
Willie A. Droko
