;:,OUa; THE DGOTIATIOb'
1. Jhat have negotiations done so far? . . . Nothing.
Despite the fact that nothing tangible has come as far as
meeting the worker's demands one thing has become quite obvious-
that Slater is not negotiating in gooa faith. The negotiations
were dominated by Slater's stalling techniques.
a. The workers expected that their amnesty was a prerequisite
to any negotiating session but after the negotiating session
began, Slater said that it was not.
b. Long discussions were deliberately held around the contract-
a contract which the workers say has nothing to do with their
demands.
c. Of the eleven demanas only four were discussed and none of
these were even brought to a vote.
2. Mht is Slater stalling? . . .
If the demands are not met by Easter vacation, Plater will
have a time advantage over the jobless workers. He will also
have the advantage of lessened student pressure.
3. Hav.'e attempts been made by this university to push negotiation?
The faculty has resolved to support negotiations that are
in good faith. They do not have the power to ensure "good faith".
Unamimous resolution;
a. In view of the information presented to us that efre. Saciulty
Council urge representatives of ABA Slater and workers to
proceed no later than noon tomorrow.
b. As long as negotiations proceed in good faith ~l& would respectfully recommendthat students to use facilities of dining
hall. n
c. If it is desired by both Sides we would offer the good offices
of a member or members of the Daculty Council to be appointed
by Chancellor and members of both s'.ides to assist with negotiations.
4. Slater has stated that the workers may not bring a lawyer.
The workers have now retained Jr. Henry Fry to represent them
and he will try to enter the negotiations at 4:00 p. m. today.
