Chancellor James S. Ferguson
Office of the Chancellor
University of North Carolina
Greensboro, North Carolina
Dear Sir:
In aftermath, the members of the Coordinating Committee for the
Black Power forum (November 1-3) send this note to acknowledge
the steadfastness with which you and the university stood in
backing the occurrence of such a forum on this campus.
In accordance with school policies and the expectations held for
an institution of higher learning, such behavior is to be expected,
but we realize that this was done in the face of potential
criticism and controversy.
Your statements to the public have shown a true spirit of the
school in the pursuit of knowledge through clear insight and first
hand information. We take pride in being part of the university
that took the initial step for sincere discussion of such a
controversial subject and hope for the continued spirit of
free expression and pursuit of knowledge.
Sincerely
Janyce Brewer and Thomasine Oliver
