But If You March...
For anyone planning to attend Sunday's funeral march by
the Workers Viewpoint Organization, the best thing to do is
to go in a group. Authorities say the best advice they can give
is to go with someone else, carry absolutely no weapons, and
keep alert as to what is going on around you.
Police have said that they anticipate no violence in the
march, but that it is a potentially dangerous situation. If you
attend the march, you are responsible for your own well
being. Should any violence erupt you should take proper
precautions for your safety. Greensboro Police will be at the
march in large numbers, however they will not be responsible
for the safety of each individual spectator, or participant.
The main thing to remember is not to carry any type of
weapon whatsoever. If the police see anyone with a weapon,
or potential weapon, that person will be asked to leave the
area, or they will be arrested on the spot. Also, watch out for
other people that have weapons. If you see someone with a
weapon, stay away from them.
Authorities would not say that they wanted people to stay
away from the scene, however it was evident that they would
appreciate as few spectators as possible. If you happen to be
exceptionally curious, or you are a thrillseeker and must attend the march, take some precautions when you go. Anyone
from UNC-G wanting to go should form a group. Get in
touch with The Carolinian, Vice-Chancellor James Adam,
or Jerry Williamson at Campus Security. These people will
tell you what you should do about forming a group and will
offer assistance on how to protect yourself. Please remember
that this is a potentially dangerous situation and anyone who
attends does so at his own risk. If you absolutely must go
remember, travel in a group, carry absolutely no weapons,
and remain constantly aware of your surroundings in case
violence erupts.
