Dear Mh Hudginc:
What a fine friend you are! I am more grateful to you for
your generous letter of September 4f than I can possibly tell you.
It strengthens my deft; a to stand for a cause in which I
believe, and reassures i^y conviction in the Tightness of the cause
to have such a .. zmx as yosgi are* ..' approval and
encouragement*
I* too, feel that the Pearsall Amendment will pass, having
as it does, on its side the traditions of three hundred years, the
mistaken hopes of a great many people, and the influence of the
Governor* I know it will not settle the question, I hope it will
not agitate it* The whole situation is pretty distressing* I know
that injury is being done to the cause of public education in the
state* but I hope that the situation will not prove to be disastrous.
We siiaply cannot afford to take the wrong road for too long*
With sentiments of the highest regard and warmest esteem,
I am,
Yours cordialiyt
Superintendent
