The Rock pictured in February of 1985. It was located on the lawn in front of the dining hall before the construction of fountain plaza. The back of photograph reads "The Rock - located on the lawn west of the Dining Halls (near the bride or walkway to the upper level); it is used for messages students want to leave about campus activities, etc. -- usually painted on in bright colors. Messages must be left for at least 24 hrs. before a new one can be painted over. From time to time "The Rock" is sand-blasted when paint build-up becomes too thick. 2/25/85"
