Nov. 14th 1901. Faculty met in special session. In the absence of the President, Mr. Joyner presided. He announced to the Faculty the death of Dr. J. M. Spainhour, Secretary of the Board of Directors of the College. It was moved and carried that a committee be appointed to draft suitable resolutions in regard to his death, the Dean to be chairman of the committee. It was moved and carried that a floral offering be sent by a representative of the College. The following Committee on Resolutions was appointed. Mr. Joyner Chairman Mr. Smith Mr. Pearson Mr. Brown Miss Boddie Miss Mendenhall The Secretary was appointed to secure and send the floral offering. Adjourned. Laura H. Where as, the members of the Faculty of the State Normal and Industrial College have learned with deep regret and a keen sense of personal sorrow of the death of Dr. J. M. Spainhour; and Whereas, the intimate relations which for a number of years have existed between him and the members of this Faculty make it fitting that we record our appreciation of his faithful and efficient services, therefore be it Resolved, that the wisdom, ability, and fidelity which he, since the establishment of this College, has exercised as Secretary of the Board of Trustees, is and will be held in grateful remembrance. Resolved, that in the death of Dr. Spainhour, the Faculty realizes that it has lost a warm friend and a wise counselor, the College a sympathetic supporter, and the course of education an earnest advocate. Resolved, that, in token of our appreciation of the services of the deceased, we cause a copy of those resolution to be spread upon our Faculty minutes, and that as a manifestation of our sympathy with the relatives and friends, a copy be sent to the bereaved family and one to the state papers for publication.
