Dear Sir: In compliance with your request, I herewith submit the following report.
In the department of Reading I have had thirty-two pupils. Of this number, ten have been excused because of a pressure of other work, five have left school. The work accomplished during the term has, on the whole, been encouraging, though there are several members of the class who have, I am afraid, gained only a superficial knowledge of the subject. Believing that in the development of natural expression, right objects of thought are far more effective than arbitrary rules, I have tried, in every way, to secure from the pupils the physical and vocal expressions which should be reflections of mental action.
