My Dear Lula:- I'm almost sorry I'm alive! In some respect this place is worse than Columbia. I'll have a worse time here than I had at Troy because Will was at Troy. This is takinking [sic] all things into consideration the most God forsaken place I've struck.There is no courthouse. The [indecipherable] in a hall used for a courtroom. I suupse 1/4 of the eighty are broken our of the windows. The hotels (I took dinner at one & was glad to find that the Do. supt. had made arrangement for me to go to the other & so came here for supper) are both so bad that there is no difference. How I shall rejoice when Friday comes!!!
There was not ever a fire in the stove today at 2 p.m. when we opened. There were 6 teachesr present, which number was afterwards increased to 8 & almost as many other people were also present. There were barely enough seats provided for there.
