Jane T. Mitchell (1931- ) taught at the Curry Laboratory School on the campus of The Woman's College of the University of North Carolina from 1958-68. After receiving her PhD, she returned to the institution (now The University of North Carolina at Greensboro) in 1970 in the Department of Romance Languages and retired in 1996 as associate professor of curriculum and instruction in the School of Education. Mitchell discusses teaching at and the closing of the Curry Laboratory School, the strong reputation of Woman's College and prominent women faculty, such as Meta Miller, Lois Edinger and Ethel Martus Lawther. She talks about the deans of the School of Education, Vice Chancellor Mereb Mossman's leadership and undergraduate vs. graduate programs in the School of Education. Mitchell describes having a shared position between the Department of Romance Languages and the School of Education, the quality of students, the Teaching Fellows Program, working students, coeducation and publication vs. supervising student teachers.
