Nancy Clark Fogarty (1944- ) obtained her undergraduate (1966 English) and graduate degrees (1980 General Speech) at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). She joined Jackson Library at the university in 1970 and retired in 2009. She held the positions of reference librarian, head reference librarian and instructional coordinator. Fogarty recalls student life, class traditions, coeducation, the academic reputation of the institution, the influence of English department faculty (especially Dr. Amy Charles) and the tenures of Chancellors Otis Singletary, James Ferguson and William Moran and Dean Katherine Taylor. She discusses the growth of the library and its service orientation as well as tenure and promotion for librarians under Library Directors Jim Thompson and Doris Hulbert. She talks about her experiences in faculty governance as she served on faculty council, the calendar and scheduling committee, the budget committee and the curriculum committee (when all-university liberal education was introduced).
