Jean Buchert (1922- ) came to Woman's College of the University of North Carolina (now The University of North Carolina at Greensboro) in 1957 as assistant professor in the department of English and retired in 1991 as full professor. Buchert describes the administrations and educational philosophies of the chancellorships of William and James Ferguson and the vice chancellorships of Mereb Mossman, Stanley Jones and Elizabeth Zinser. She discusses her views of the university's move to Division I athletics, changes in promotion and tenure philosophies over the years and faculty salary inequities.
