The Minutes of the Cornelian Literary Society for 1893 discusses Bertha Lee's elected position as critic. Bessie Wood was elected chairman. The committee members are B. Good and Mary Applewhite. A list of nominations for other positions is also discussed. Bertha Lee then encouraged the members to "try to influence" the new students at the school to join the Society. The first minutes are signed by Secretary Hattie G. Garvin.
The next meeting minutes was for October 12, 1893. The members discussed what to name the Society (as it was currently nicknamed the "G" Society) and came up with either "The McIver Alderman" or "The Tiley." They asked the school President Charles D. McIver for his opinion. The members decided on "The McIver Alderman" then assigned some members to bring President McIver to the group so they could inform him of their decision. McIver was surprised and then told them that a notice about the Society would be included to be read aloud at the Chapel's opening exercise.
