Description
Hermann Trojanowski was born August 30, 1946 in Furth, Germany. His family emigrated to the United States in 1951, eventually settling in North Carolina via New York. Mr. Trojanowski attended and received degrees from Greensboro College (B.A. History, 1968), GTCC (AAS, Commercial Art and Advertising Design, 1974), and UNCG (MLIS, 1998). Mr. Trojanowski also served in the Air Force from 1968-1972. He also received US citizenship in 1972. After working various jobs in banking, advertising, and printing, Mr. Trojanowski began his career as Assistant University Archivist at NC State in 1999. Having worked as a graduate student in UNCG's archives and having also done oral history work for the University Archivist there, Mr. Trojanowski next worked at UNCG in 2003 as Assistant University Archivist, where he remained until his retirement in 2013, whereafter he attained Emeritus status. In this interview, Mr. Trojanowski relates the story of his family and coming to the United States. He discusses his education, degrees, and work background prior to coming to UNCG. Mr. Trojanowski describes the Special Collections and University Archives Department at UNCG and the type of work he does there, with a special emphasis on his oral history work, which including the Betty H. Carter Women Veterans Historical Project, UNCG Institutional Memory Collection, and Rotary Club interviews. Mr. Trojanowski also talks about his walking tours of campus, volunteering, genealogical research, coming out as a gay man, and his thoughts on what UNCG means to him, and UNCG's future.
