Mrs. Betty Luning (Betty Nash McIver*) was born October 6, 1939 in Salisbury, NC. She attended Woman's College of the University of North Carolina, majoring in history, and graduated in 1961. During her time at Woman's College, She participated in the Woolworth sit-ins, with her friend Sudie Sides (nee Duncan). In this interview, Mrs. Luning discusses her early life and family, attending Woman's College, participating in the sit-ins, and remembrances of notable faculty and administrators. Mrs. Luning also discusses getting her first job out of college via her WC Russian language professor, Jordan Kurland. Mrs. Luning worked for the USIA (US Information Agency) and later for the Voice of America, where she used her Russian language knowledge. Mrs. Luning finishes her interview discussing what UNCG means to her and how it impacted her life. *Mrs. Luning is a member of the McIver family, her grandmother (Catherine Nash- Class of 1904) having married Charles D. McIver's brother.
