Description
Dr. John D'Emilio was born September 21, 1948 in New York City, New York. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1982. From 1983-1995, Dr. D'Emilio was a Professor in the History Department at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He left Greensboro in 1995 to join the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force for two years. In 1999, he began his work at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he worked until 2014. Dr. D'Emilio is a pioneer in the field of gay and lesbian studies, and has written numerous books and articles including: Sexual Politics, Intimate Matters, Sexuality in America, and more. In his interview, Dr. John D'Emilio discusses his early life, LGBTQA history in Greensboro and the United States, and his time at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
