Mary Jane Conger was born May 11, 1951 in Plainfield, New Jersey and grew up in Cranford, New Jersey. Ms. Conger attained her BA in History from Mary Baldwin College, her MA in History (Modern China and Japan) from The University of Virginia and her MS in Library Science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ms. Conger worked periodically at the College of William and Mary in the Library's Cataloging Department before attending UNC. Ms. Conger also worked graduate assistantships in the cataloging and reference departments while at UNC. Ms. Conger initially came to Jackson Library at UNCG in July of 1977 as the Serials Cataloger, before moving up to Serials and Electronic Resources Cataloger and Head of the Cataloging Department. She also served as Interim Head of the Serials Department for a time. Ms. Conger retired July 31, 2015. In this interview, Ms. Conger discusses her early life, working at Jackson Library, and changes at Jackson Library, the library profession, and UNCG.
