Mrs. Elizabeth Harris Hinshaw was born July 6, 1945 in Greensboro, North Carolina. She attended The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and graduated with a B.A. in Chemistry in December 1967. Mrs. Hinshaw lived on campus for one semester, but was otherwise a town student. After college, she first worked as a high school Science teacher at Northeast Guilford High School. Later, she worked as a chemist, senior chemist, and quality assurance manager at Richardson-Vicks Chemical Company (later bought by Procter & Gamble) for the rest of her career.
