Dr. Stuart Schleien was born in 1956 in New York City, New York. He attended Binghamton University for his Bachelor's, the University of Georgia for his Master's, and has a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. Dr. Schleien is currently a professor and chair of the Department of Community and Therapeutic Recreation. He has developed best practices that have helped parents and professionals design inclusive recreation, physical activity, friendship, and volunteer programs for children and adults with diverse skills and abilities. Dr. Schleien has been with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro since 1997. In his interview, Dr. Schleien discusses his early life, Department of Community and Therapeutic Recreation, and his time at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
