Dr. Timothy Johnston graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a BA in Ecological Science Honors in 1970, received his masters from the University of Wisconsin in Zoology in 1974, then his doctorate from the University of Connecticut in Bio-behavioral Sciences in 1979. Dr. Timothy Johnston joined the UNCG faculty in 1982 as a Lecturer and Research Associate for the Department of Psychology, then moved up to Assistant (1983-1988) then Associate Professor (1988-1992). During Johnston's time as Associate Professor he also served as the Director of Graduate Studies (1989-1990). From 1990-1997, Johnston served as Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Director for Critical Inquiry in the Liberal Arts, then from 1997 to 2002 served as the head of the Department of Psychology, and was finally promoted to the Dean of College of Arts and Sciences where he served for 14 years before stepping down in 2016. In his interview, Dr. Johnston discusses the university, his early life and his administration positions.
