Dr. Loren Schweninger was born January 7, 1941 in Culver City, California. He received his Bachelor's (1962) and Master's (1964) from the University of Colorado, and his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1972. His research interests include: Race and Slavery in the United States, African American History, the Nineteenth Century South, and Documentary History. Dr. Schweninger began at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1971 as an instructor and worked to become a full professor in 1986. He retired in 2012. In his interview, Dr. Schweninger discusses his early life, the History department, William Moran, and UNCG.
