Dr. Karl Schleunes was born April 21, 1937 in Kiel, Wisconsin. He obtained his Bachelor from Lakeland College in 1959, and his Master's (1961) and Ph.D. (1965) from the University of Minnesota. He wrote The Twisted Road to Auschwitz: Nazi Policy Toward German Jews 1933-1939 which looked at the Final Solution in a new light. Before working at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Dr. Schleunes taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Schleunes worked at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro from 1971-2010. His areas of focus were in German history, Germany in the 20th Century during the rise of the Nazi party, and the Holocaust. Dr. Schleunes discusses his time at UNCG, his areas of focus, and his proudest accomplishments.
